20th August 2015: 11.30pm

On the 20th of August 2015, I had the immense pleasure of performing and celebrating the 69th Independence Day of India in Riga, Latvia. The Embassy of India and the Indo-Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Culture hosted the event at the stunning Gold Hall, a venue that welcomed approximately one hundred and thirty esteemed guests. Among them were members of the Indian community, prominent Latvian politicians, senior officials from the Foreign Ministry and other government departments, as well as academics.

And you can see from the photo below that when I wasn’t Bollywood dancing on the stage in Riga, I was on the beach, with the wind blowing through my hair!

Bollywood Dancing in Latvia

I, Ria Meera Munshi, Director of Ri Ri’s Dance Academy, was honoured to entertain the high-profile guests at this prestigious international event. As a visiting PIO (Person of Indian Origin) artiste, I was thrilled to enhance the celebration with Bollywood dancing.

I mesmerised the audience with two Bollywood dance performances, both featuring a fusion of songs specifically chosen for India’s Independence Day celebration in Riga. One of the well-known patriotic tracks I danced to was the title song ‘Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani’. The enthusiastic applause from the guests after each performance echoed their appreciation and joy.

Sharing the stage with Latvian artists whilst I performed to fusion Indian classical dance routines added to the cultural richness of the evening. It was a wonderful experience to see the fusion of Indian and Latvian cultures through dance, creating unforgettable memories for everyone present.
